Welcome to the website of your local paper, the Pyrenees Advocate. The Advocate commenced operations in 1872 as the Riponshire Advocate serving Beaufort and district. In the mid 1990's, the name changed to the Pyrenees Advocate to reflect the new, larger Pyrenees Shire which brought together the municipalities of Ripon, Avoca and Lexton.
With offices in both Avoca and Beaufort, the Pyrenees Advocate is able to provide a full coverage of news and advertising throughout the whole Shire. Beaufort, an easy two hour drive from Melbourne, is situated in fine wool growing country and offers tourist attractions including the Lake Goldsmith Steam Rally and Mt Cole State Forest.
Avoca is an historic gold mining town which has become a popular wine growing district producing nationally and internationally awarded wines. The wider Shire is also home to many of Australia's best wineries, the biggest wind farm in the southern hemisphere located at Waubra and some internationally renowned natural attractions.
This website will continue to be developed and refined over coming months. In the meantime, have a browse around and enjoy what the Pyrenees Region has to offer.
