Waubra

Waubra is located on the Sunraysia Highway, 33 kilometres north west of Ballarat. The town was originally called The Springs and was changed to Waubra in 1889. The Springs Hotel remains in Waubra to this day.

Waubra is a productive agricultural district, although the recent construction of the Waubra Wind Farm has seen a massive influx of employment and prosperity in recent years. The 128 turbine wind farm is the largest in the southern hemisphere, employs hundreds of people and generates enough power for all Ballarat households and industry.

The town was once served by a rail branchline which opened in October 1888.In 1931, passenger services were withdrawn and the line continued as a "goods only" line through to its closure in January 1968. At the 2006 census, the population of Waubra and district was 494.
