BY the time Mick Menzies closes his doors on Christmas eve, he and his bakers will have supplied over eight thousand Christmas tarts to the Ararat community.

Christmas tarts are incredibly popular in Ararat according to Mick, with his Bakers Delight store producing one on average for every man, woman and child living in Ararat.

“I was pretty surprised when I looked at the numbers, we bake day by day but eight thousand we’ll make for the Christmas period. The majority are lemon but don’t forget the old favourite fruit mince,” he said.

In addition to thousands of Christmas tarts, Bakers Delight are also baking traditional fruit cakes and they’re preparing for an influx of people buying bread on Christmas eve.

“Christmas eve is one of our busiest days of the year, a lot of people place orders but we usually have enough of everything right up until closing time,” Mick said.

“The lead up to Christmas is probably out busiest time of year and then we get into making hot cross buns,”

Drop into Bakers Delight, next to Woolworths, to pick up a tart or two before Christmas.
