The local band has been struggling in recent years with declining membership and large insurance and building maintenance costs.

The weekend garage sale raised close to $3,000 for the band which committee member Josie Joynson said was a huge shot in the arm.

“It was close to $3,000, pure profit because everything was donated. It’s fantastic,” she said.

Ms Joynson said the band was surviving, but an influx of new players would be ideal.

“What we’ve got is enough, but they’re aging, including myself.

“We have 10 to 12 members but we have to pool from other bands to make up the numbers when you have things like the Stawell Gift.

“When it comes to Christmas or Anzac Day or Harmony Day, other plays have to stick with their home band. We are managing, but it’s not easy,” she said.
