GCA competitive during Country Week
While the Grampians Cricket Association didn’t win a match in their country week, held from Monday, January 19, to Thursday, January 22, they were competitive in all three matches.
In their first match against Castlemaine at Central Park, they scored 75 in pursuit of 144.
In their second match against Maryborough at Gordon Street Oval, Ararat, they made 81 chasing 149 for victory.
In their final match against Ballarat, they made 76 in pursuit of 207.
Will Chamings led the way with the bat for GCA, hitting 46 runs with an average of 15.33. Both Hamish Barr and Euan Lennie scored 30 runs at averages of 15 and 10, respectively.
Matthew Staples led the way with the ball, claiming eight wickets with an average of 13.
Nayte Givvens took six wickets at an average of 13.67.
Will Chamings and Zachary Griffin also bowled well, taking five wickets at averages of 12.8 and 14, respectively.
Lachlan McLennan led the way in the field with six catches.
Matthew Staples was the champion player with 142 points ahead of Will Chamings with 131 and Zachary Griffin with 105.
Grampians Cricket Association president Brett Chamings thanked everyone who contributed to the week.
“I would like to thank the Ararat City Council and Northern Grampians Shire Council for their time and effort in getting the pitches up and running,” he said.
“I would also like to thank Marc Brilliant for all his work with rolling the pitch in Stawell.”
