Marnoo Pool demolished
GENERATIONS of local families would have plenty of memories of their time at the Marnoo Swimming Pool.

The pool in Newell Street has been a popular destination for many people over the hotter months, but its life has come to an end.
Unlike other pools in Northern Grampians Shire, the Marnoo Pool was not owned by council.
It was built on land owned by the Education Department and ultimately Marnoo Primary school was responsible for its upkeep and future although it operated under a joint agreement with Northern Grampians Shire.
Under the original agreement, the council agreed to construct a swimming pool and associated facilities on the school site for use by the broader local community as well as the school.
The agreement ceased by mutual agreement in June 2024, after refurbishing the pool and associated facilities was deemed unviable.
A Department of Education spokesperson told the Stawell Times-News the pool has not been used for some years.
“Marnoo Swimming Pool was formally decommissioned in 2024, having been safely cordoned off for some years as a result of its condition.”
“For some years, students from Marnoo Primary School have been using the Rupanyup Community Swimming Pool and Stawell Sports and Aquatic Centre for their aquatic activities,” the spokesperson said.
On social media, a number of current and former Marnoo residents voiced their sadness at the pools demise.
“Wow, just wow. The greatest time in my life, surrounded by some of the greatest people ever in my life. Very sad to see,” - Andrew Gibson.
“Very sad to see it go. So many learnt to swim there,” - Anne Elizabeth Matheson.
“So sad, the pool was most of my childhood,” - Alicia Walter.
“So many wonderful memories made at this pool,” - Jane Graversgaard.
