Purple Wiggle revisits family story in Stawell
FOR an entire generation of Australians, Jeff Fatt was the Purple Wiggle – the star of Wake Up Jeff! and one of the country’s most recognisable children’s entertainers. But when he returned to Stawell last week, he was reconnecting with a remarkable chapter of his family’s history inside the former courthouse where his great-great-grandfather once served as the government-appointed Chinese interpreter during Victoria’s gold rush.
Original Purple Wiggle Jeff Fatt, centre, and his sister Mei Gun joined Stawell Historical Society volunteer Gary Withers during a visit to the Pleasant Creek Museum, reconnecting with the family history that first brought Mr Fatt to Stawell while filming Who Do You Think You Are? in 2021.
