Avoca and Beaufort RSL clubs will host the 107th Remembrance Day Service on November 11, to remember local soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

November 11 marks the anniversary of the Armistice that ended fighting with Germany in World War I.

Every year since 1919, many nations have paused on Remembrance Day in memory of their fallen service people.

It’s a day for people to acknowledge the service personnel who have died while serving, including in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, people in Australia and many other countries pause for a minute of silent reflection in memory of those who died while in military service.

While Remembrance Day originated in the aftermath of World War I, its significance has grown to encompass all Australian service personnel who have lost their lives in subsequent wars, conflicts and peacekeeping missions.

It is also an opportunity to recognise the courage, sacrifice and dedication of those who served, and to acknowledge the lasting impact of war on families, communities and generations.

For the Avoca and Beaufort communities, the services are an important opportunity to remember local servicemen and women, reflect on their contribution and ensure their stories and sacrifices are not forgotten.

Avoca’s service will commence at 11am next Wednesday at the war memorial in High Street for a short service and wreaths laid.

People attending are asked to arrive at least ten minutes before the service commences.

In Beaufort, people are asked to be at the Memorial Park by 10.50am ahead of an eleven o’clock service and wreath laying ceremony.
